In this video, the focus is on those fantastic facts about planet Mars which we are going to tell through an interesting storytelling way. James: Aaron do you know any Mars Facts for Kids? Aaron: Mars, of course - the 4th planet from the sun. Did you know that Mars will likely be the first planet that a human will step foot on. Many people believe it could happen as soon as the 2020’s James: WOW! I wonder what Mars is like? Aaron: Mars is amazing I have loads of facts here goes! Fact 1 - Mars has a hard rocky surface that you could walk on. Mars\' surface is dry and much of it is covered with a reddish dust. When viewed from Earth, Mars appears to be the colour red. Fact 2: Mars is actually covered by craters from objects like asteroids and meteorites hitting the planet. Today, 43,000 such craters have been found and that only includes the large ones! Fact 3: Mars has some of the most impressive natural structures in the Solar System. Olympus Mons, a now dormant volcano, is the highest mountain in the Solar System. It is 3 times as high as Mount Everest. Mars also has a great canyon, Valles Marineris. This canyon is the biggest in the Solar System. It is 4 miles deep in places and stretches for thousands of miles. Fact 4: Mars is famous for it’s dust storms, they are larger than on any other planet in the solar system. Some dust storms on Mars can blanket almost the entire planet in just a few days. James: That is amazing Aaron – I have heard Mars is a bit like Earth is that true? Aaron: Well yes, there are some similarities – let me continue my facts and you will see how! Fact 5: One day on Mars is 24 hours and 37 minutes, almost the same length as an Earth day. Mars is much smaller than Earth too almost half the size! Fact 6: Mars is not much farther from the Sun than Earth. As a result, a typical year on Mars is 687 days. Almost twice the time it takes for a year to pass on Earth. James: But could you live on Mars? Aaron: Well I wouldn’t like to – you will soon see why Fact 7: Unlike Earth, Mars has a very thin atmosphere made up mostly of carbon dioxide. As a result, it is much colder on Mars (average of -70 degrees F) than on Earth. Too cold for me!! Fact 8: Also Earth has a protective magnetic field to protect us all from intense radiation, Mars has not got this protection so we would be exposed to high volumes of radiation and we would need spacesuits at all times when going outdoors. James: I don’t think this is the planet for me either – how far away is it? Aaron: Fact 9: Mars is 141,633,260 miles from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in the Solar System. James: Actually Aaron I just remembered a fact – Fact number 10: There are two moons on Mars - Phobos and Deimos. Aaron: I didn’t know that James – interesting!!
